7 Steps To More Effective Parenting

7 Steps To More Effective Parenting

Raising tiny humans is one of the most challenging periods of your life. It’s can also be a time of doubt, self-reflection and overwhelm. You tend to question your parenting approach whenever a new milestone hits and embark on a search for that magical formula that will set you up with successful parenting strategies for good.

We are big believers in finding your rhythm and sticking to what works for you and your family. There aren’t any blanket approaches that work for everyone.

Here are some strategies that have worked for the One Fine Baby team on our parenthood journey.

Look after yourself so you can look after others

It’s so easy to put everyone else first and forget about the most important person – you. Make sure you treat your mind and body kindly, so you have the strength and mindset to nurture others. That’s not selfish, but should be the basis to a well-functioning family. Happy mum, happy life! These are some of our favourite quick fixes to recharge our mind and body:

Intelligent Health

Intelligent Health is all about empowering mums on their health journey, making selfcare easy. It’s 100% pure plant based and nourishes your body. Simply add Intelligent Health to water, juice or a smoothie. It’s that simple!

Smoothie Bombs

Smoothie Bombs are a handy solution to fit quick, nutritious smoothies into your daily schedule without the effort that usually goes with it. Each Smoothie Bomb flavour comes with its distinct benefits. The Lover is for antioxidants, The Transformer is for cleansing, The Motivator is for vitality, The Defender is for immunity and The Warrior is for energy.

Simply add 1 Smoothie Bomb, 1 piece of fruit and 1 cup of milk to your blender and you’re set.

Go easy on yourself

Parenting is hard. There’s no denying. Kids don’t come with user manuals, so we all have to learn as we go along. Rest assured that we’re all in the same boat and the pure fact that you’re reading up on parenting tips makes you an amazing parent already. Take it one day at a time and bounce ideas off other mum friends who might be in the same boat. You’ll soon work out that nobody has it all worked out.

Consider you and bub as a winning team

Rethink your parenting strategy and invite bub onto your team. Yep, you heard right! Don’t look at bub as your ‘job’, but embrace them as your playbuddy, tiny comedian and time-waster extraordinare. As soon as you try to tackle challenges as a team, things will make much more sense. You’ll try to work them out together and can celebrate joint wins as you go along.

Step away when things are tough

We all have those days when bub is in a foul mood that seems to go on and on and on. When things reach boiling point and you feel like ripping your hair out, simply leave bub in a safe spot and give yourself a minute or two. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that it’s just a moment in time. By the time you return to bub, they might just have found something to take their mind of things. And if not, then you at least had a moment to think of a strategy to get you through until bedtime. Tomorrow is going to be a new day!

Make convenience your new best friend

There is absolutely nothing wrong with calling on amazing service providers who can make a real difference to a mum’s state of mind. You only ever understand the challenge of preparing dinner with a newborn who’s embracing witching hour once you’ve been there. So give yourself permission to outsource things or make them more convenient for you. Here is one of those services we love:

Hello Fresh

The genius team at Hello Fresh let you customise a weekly menu online by selecting from the most delicious seasonal recipes. They then bundle up the ingredients in just the right amounts for you and deliver it to the comfort of your home in fridge-friendly meal kits. All recipes are easy-to-follow and only feature the freshest seasonal produce from hand-picked suppliers.

Get out and about to experience new things together

It can be far too easy to stay at home as a new mum. There are no tantrums to deal with at the shops, no worrying about nap time on the run and you stay in your comfort zone. There are so many fabulous structured play experiences out there for parents and bubs that provide joint experiences that you will fall in love with. Your little one will fall in love with new sensory delights and mum will fall in love with the obvious joy this activity brings. You also meet other mums that might just as well become your new best friend.

There are so many different types of services out there, and there’s something for every bub. Here are two stellar examples to check out:

Baby Sensory

Baby Sensory is a programme suitable for bubs from birth. The classes are packed with sounds, smells, sights, textures, music, dance, singing and more – plus you’ll never experience the same class twice.

Little Messy Learners

Little Messy Learners are educational messy play classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers where children learn through messy play in a safe and fun environment. They encourage kids to use their hands, fingers, feet and toes to help strengthen their core muscles and stimulate the senses.

Schedule time for yourself

Catching up with your girlfriends, hitting the shops in peace or simply booking a pilates class shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be a routine that keeps you happy, connected and ready to take on the challenges of motherhood. We plan out our ‘mum time’ in advance, so it doesn’t disappear among the craziness of the week. Get yourself a family calendar and get into the habit of writing your plans down. Once it’s written down, it’s much harder not to go through with it.
